As if there were not enough reason for those with progressive political positions to become hyper-active this year, I will offer one more, which is simply a prediction. I will say, however, that my political experience is such that I seem to have the unfortunate power to channel the worst case senario.

The GOP nomination will be all but sown up by none other than Mike Huckabee upon confirmation of the South Carolina primary results, unless, to quote Huey Long, "he is found with a dead woman or a live boy." If you do not want another 4-8 years of a President who feels entitled to do anything whatsoever, because he has conversations with God, it is time to get off of our asses.

I am not claiming that I am very impressed with the Democrats. The past two years, when they had the opportunity to crush Bush, at least in the House, they acted as cowardly as I could possibly have conceived. Nonetheless, this I would much prefer a coward--again, I am not claiming that there is no possibility for redemption-- in the White House than another boarder-line psychotic.

Perhaps it is too late to right the ship, in 4 more years the "perhaps" I will be compelled to elide the "perhaps." Let's take back the day, so that everything that happens in our Executive branch does not occur in the night.

To anyone who may be interested in the least, I am in the process of reconfiguring this blog so as to make its content reflect the impetus behind the name. This particular blog will be dedicated entirely to progressive political commentary, both domestic and international, particularly concentrating on the Middle East. In the process, I will, of course, update my profile, which currently is no more than an exploitation of the beauties of irony, paradox, and other forms of linguistic playfulness. My interests do not seriously include "ennui," though they do include "laughing as often as possible so as not to cry." After all, as many of my posts will argue, there are nearly inexhaustible justifications for crying for at least a third of each day, increasing to three quarters on some days (Recall the assassination of Rabin?)

So, stay tuned. I will deliver quality product, and you may be sure that I will be provocative when such an approach is necessary: almost always when reflecting on contemporary politics and world affairs. In the very near future I will be adding posts on Pakistan, which I argue is the most dangerous country in the world, and has been for some time. Unfortunately, the danger increased significantly with last weeks assassination of Mrs. Bhutto. In addition, I am in the process of editing a text on the absolute travesty of the freedom of Big Pharmaceutical companies to exploit our anxieties about our health and make incredible amounts of money in the process. This posting will also touch on certain aspects of the health care crisis, in general. And, these are just two of the postings that I have thus far outlined.

To sum up, in the spirit of constructive critical interaction, I am looking forward to any comments with which you may honor me. Fear not: remove the velvet you may cover you hammer with, for I will be offended only by narrow-mindedness and willful ignorance, but never with a good faith shredding of my opinions. In return, I pledge to adjust my point of view to the extent that I am persuaded to, as well as to defend it ferociously in the event of a disagreement that fails to persuade me to adopt a new attitude.

I look forward to exasperating as many of you as I can. On the other hand, I am equally eager to interact with those of you who are clear-sighted enough to realize the brilliance of my analysis, in spite of the fact that I whole-heartedly subscribe to the only half ironic position of Socrates that the only thing I know is that I know nothing.

For now, some football,
Forever Incredulous
